DJ Star Dao (Martha Marina Dao) had a passion for music and mixing songs since she was a child; she was only 10 years old when she created her first medley using a double deck cassette recorder. At every gathering with friends she was the one chosen to play the music; she feels that she was born with the DJ DNA, and that during the years all she did was exercising and improving this talent, following her vocation.

12 years ago she started developing this passion into a profession. Her first occasion was offered to her in Greece –where she was spending part of her time– when she was asked to play for an evening in a Restaurant on the beach.

Right after she began investing in her equipment, and little by little she learned all the DJ techniques. Now DJing is her second full time career, besides her main one as a Graphic Designer.

When asked “how do you feel behind the controller?” she answers: “I LOVE IT! I love bringing fun, happiness and joy to people.” As an advice to anyone wanting to purse this profession she suggests:“go for it, understand music, learn and enjoy while you’re playing, have fun doing it.” “You’re not ought to have a large budget to start playing music, what matters is the passion you put into it and the ability to prepare your tracks and keep updating your music library, being on the trend”. “Anyone, young or old can develop this carrier, which at the bottom is a form of ART”.

DJ Star Dao plays every genre of music (bolero, jazz, latin, ‘70s, ‘80s, pop, lounge, etc) at a variety of events, from high end gathering to kids’ birthday parties; from book presentations to happy hours. Her goal is to become a pioneer of the female DJ world. In DJ Star Dao words: “music is a way of communication, it unifies people of different beliefs, it’s a universal language that applies to all of us. It creates deep emotions and it reaches places where no ordinary mode of speech can travel. Music is timeless, necessary, and beautiful”.
